Donation of Tornjak dogs upon completion of the project

Following completion of the project, donations of Tornjak dogs continued with Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Zadar County allocating funds for this purpose. Donations continued to primarily go to livestock holders in the Dalmatia, Lika and Gorski Kotar regions that lie within the movement ranges of wolf packs and which have had livestock damages. The largest numbers of dogs were donated in the Dalmatia region, more precisely in Šibenik-Knin County. At the end of 2008, dogs were also donated to farmsteads in the Dvor municipality of Sisak-Moslavina County, considering that livestock damages were recorded here due to the expansion of the wolf movement range towards Zrinska Gora. Furthermore, in 2010, following new damages recorded in the Posedarje municipality (Slivnica), dog donations were also made in that area.

Since the start of the project in 2003 to the present day, a total of 147 Tornjak dogs have been donated. These donated dogs that are kept and raised in the proper fashion have the nature of a shepherd dog. Based on the results to date of these donations, it can be concluded that the reintroduction of the Tornjak dog has brought substantial progress, not only in improving and facilitating the keeping of livestock, but also in significant reductions or complete absences of damages.
