Directive on Conservation of Natural Habitats and Wild Fauna and Flora

The EU Member States have committed to preserving the wolf population in a favourable protection status. In that sense, Article 12 of the Directive defines, among other things, the prohibition of all forms of intentional capture or killing of individuals in the wild, their intentional disturbance, particularly during mating season, the raising of young and migration, and the damaging or destruction of localities for rest or reproduction. Furthermore, the holding, transport, sale or exchanges of these species and the offering for sale or exchange of individuals taken from the wild is prohibited.
