First tornjak* dogs donated for Dalmatia

Knin, 5 February 2004

Donation of 5 tornjak dogs to livestock breeders from Ervenik and Kijevo has marked the beginning of the donation programme in Dalmatia. The project envisages donation of 60 tornjak dogs in total, with the purpose of reducing damage done to livestock by wolves. Thirty-seven dogs will be donated in Dalmatia, while the livestock breeders in Lika and Gorski kotar will receive the remaining 24.
Upon receiving the dogs, breeders were informed about their obligations related to adequate keeping and training of the dogs, in order to be able to use them for the right purpose - protection of livestock against wolf attacks. The value of tornjak dogs in the protection of livestock was confirmed by Mr. Ante Maloča from Kijevo, who already owns one mature tornjak dog and was more than willing to share his positive experience in the usage of this breed.
