First tornjak* puppies donated

13 December 2003, Gospić

Donation of the first out of the planned 60 tornjak puppies took place at the premises if the regional project office in Gospić. The puppies were donated to livestock breeders from Karlobag, Željko Čačić and Ivan Prpić, intended exclusively for the protection of livestock against wolf attacks. The ceremony was also attended by project implementation officers - Ana Štrbenac, Jasna Martinko, Sonja Desnica and Dragan Šarić, as well as Šandor Horvath, coordinator of the tornjak donation programme within the project.
The State Institute for Nature Protection joined the tornjak donation programme by financially supporting the purchase of additional 5 young bitches, to be donated in the same target areas. This was done with the aim of encouraging the development of tornjak dogs as a native Croatian breed. In Gospić, the first two bitches were donated to livestock breeders Mate Radošević from Klanac and Nikola Bukvić from Brinje.
