| 15 - 17 April 2005, Osilnica In collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia and the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe (LCEI) the Council of Europe organized a seminar on transboundary co-operation in the management of large carnivore populations that took place in Osilnica ( Slovenia ). The seminar was attended by over 100 representatives of European countries inhabited by large carnivore populations or sharing them. The event was also attended by Prof. Đuro Huber and Josip Kusak of the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Zagreb and by Ana Štrbenac and Jasna Martinko of the State Institute for Nature Protection. At the LCEI meeting the Plan for the Management of Wolves in Croatia was presented in detail and the LCEI members were also informed about the Croatian plans for the management of lynx and bears. Activities relating to the protection of large carnivores of Croatia were presented during a special part of the seminar dedicated to the problem area of large carnivores living in the mountainous regions of Dinara-Pinda / Rila-Rodopi. The methodology applied in preparation of the Plan for the Management of Wolves in Croatia was particularly highlighted as a positive example of tackling such complex issues as conservation of wolves. Other European countries were therefore suggested to make use of this example as a pattern for preparation of their respective large carnivore management plans. A detailed report on the Seminar may be found on the official web sites of the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe.
