The Meeting of the Committee on Monitoring Large Carnivore Populations and the Round Table

Generalski stolOn Thursday, 16 November 2006, a meeting of the Committee on Monitoring Large Carnivore Populations was held in the premises of the "Generalski Stol" Hunters Club, followed by a round table entitled " The Wolf in the County of Karlovac with a Special Comment on the Generalski Stol Area2.  The round table was attended by Mr. Ivan Škrtić, the district council chairman, Mr. Damir Škrtić, a member of the local government and a veterinarian, Ms. Emilija Vojić, a veterinary inspector of the County, Mr. Dražen Lauš, the chief of the Duga Resa Police Station, Mr. Anton Mateša, the chairman of the "Generalski Stol" Hunters Club, Mr. Velimir Valjo, a representative of the Hunters Association of the County of Karlovac and Mr. Ivica Oršolić, a hunter. The participants discussed the difficulties relating to the fact that the wolves started appearing in the municipality area.
Given the fact that this is a protected animal species, the meeting included a lecture on the wolf biology and studies of wolf populations in Croatia, a presentation of the Wolf Management Plan for Croatia and the Report on the Wolf Population Status and an explanation of the methodology of reporting damage to domestic animals and adequate ways of safeguarding the livestock. The Municipality and the Veterinary Station are currently making arrangements for lectures to be held to school children and all the local population interested.
