Donation of tornjak* puppies

Since 2003 altogether 70 tornjak puppies were donated to the livestock breeders in Gorski kotar, Lika and Dalmacija; 60 in the scope of the LIFE project, 5 as a special donation of the State Institute for Nature Protection and 5 with the financial support of the Zadar County. Primorje - Gorski kotar County has also joined this programme and allocated certain funds from its budget for donation of tornjak dogs and electrical fences to the livestock breeders from this County, as a measure for the protection of livestock from large predators.
The County also ensured a support for procurement of the GPS collars for telemetry research.
The livestock breeders from Tršće, Sunger, Gomirije, Vrbovsko and Moravice were selected for donation and received 5 tornjak dogs on the special donation event that happened in Mrkopalj on 6 April.

 

Mr Ivan Butković, mayor of the Mrkopalj Municipality opened the event together with Mr Goran Kutnjak, head of the Department for economical development of the Primorje - Gorski kotar County and Mr Davorin Marković, director of the State Institute for Nature Protection.

Ms Ana Štrbenac, project manager of the LIFE project and Mr Šandor Horvath, coordinator of tornjak breeding programme in Croatia informed about the LIFE project donation programme and gave instructions to the new donees regarding tornjak breeding. Mr Dragan Šarić, regional coordinator of the project in Gorski kotar and Lika and Ms Sonja Desnica, project databases administrator were also present on this occassion.
