1 - 4 October 2005, Colorado Springs, USA International Wolf Conference
The conference was attended by numerous scientists and experts in wolves and included presentations that dealt with wolf research, management, education, human dimension, wolf's impact on livestock and game, etc. The attendees also saw several documentaries. The issues of wolf conservation in Croatia were addressed by as much as three presentations. So Ana Štrbenac of the State Institute for Nature Protection presented the key issues of wolf conservation in Croatia, activities performed within the LIFE Project and the Plan for the Wolf Management in Croatia.
Josip Kusak of the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Zagreb presented the research aspect of wolf conservation in Croatia, including the results of wolf population studies carried out within the LIFE Project over the last three years. The presentations were markedly well attended and accepted and Croatia highlighted on several occasions as a positive example of wolf conservation in collaboration of all interest groups. Other presentations lead to the conclusion that, despite existing difficulties, the tolerance of large carnivores and nature in general shown in Croatia and other East European countries surpassed considerably that of the developed countries such as the USA and Scandinavian countries.
