Hunting and Fishing Fair in Rijeka From 19 - 23 October 2005 Rijeka hosted the seventh in the row Hunting and Fishing Fair that took place in the context of the 22nd International North Adriatic Fair. The objective of the entire fair was to present a wide variety of domestic products and services among which hunting and fishing have been recognized as important economic activities. The State Institute for Nature Protection and The School of Veterinary Medicine joined the event by organizing an educational and information exhibition of large carnivores so as to present those animals to the public as the country's natural values and to demonstrate that, apart from the hunting tourism, the area has also potentials for the development of ecotourism based on a rich and well preserved animal world. Since a large number of visitors is involved in hunting activities in various ways, the State Institute for Nature Protection and the School of Veterinary Medicine recognized the importance of participating in the fair, so as to make this interest group familiar with main determinants of the large carnivore management and administration plans. The involvement of hunters and other interest groups is, namely, indispensably necessary for an efficient implementation of those plans and eventually for conservation of large carnivores in Croatia. A round table on hunting and the accession to the EU was organized within the context of the fair. On that occasion Ana ©trbenac of the State Institute for Nature Protection and Ðuro Huber of the School of Veterinary Medicine held presentations informing the participants of the EU legislation in the field of nature protection and of the wolf, the lynx and the brown bear management plans of Croatia.
