On Thursday,
3 April, a workshop on "Preparation of the Plan of Wolf Management in Croatia"
was held, in which about 30 representatives of all interest groups took part.
The workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Alistair Bath, a Canadian project associate,
one of the leading international experts in the study of sociological aspects
of wildlife conservation/management and Aleksandra Majiæ, a postgraduate student
of the human dimension of wildlife management at the University of Newfoundland,
Canada. All the participants agreed that conservation of the wolf population
in Croatia should be the top priority objective, but the method to achieve this
still has to be determined. It was stressed that in the first place all data
on the wolf population, its diet basis (number of cattle, game), impact on the
wildlife, damage caused to cattle, precautionary measures to be taken, etc.
were to be collected. The majority of participants were tasked with the collection
of these data and their presentation at the following workshop scheduled for
the middle of May.
